Dear Praying Friends
and
Family!
On May 2nd I arrived home in Miami after
completing four months of mission training in NW Montana at the Potter’s Field
Ranch, and I am excited to share news about my summer mission practicum to
KENYA on June 8- July 28, 2010.

I
will be flying into Nairobi, KENYA and will be living with a local family as I
spend five weeks serving at a nearby school of 380 students located in the
Kibera slums. Here I will serve as a tutor from 7AM to 8 AM and 2 -5 PM, and
teach the students during the school hours of 8 AM to 2 PM. I am also excited to labor
together with the local pastor and the teaching staff as we meet with,
encourage and pray for the many parents and families scattered throughout the
Kibera slums whose lives are often a daily struggle for survival.
|
| The Global Letter Exchange Program was a big hit in the Standard Four class. |
The
remaining weeks of my practicum will be spent in a more remote area in a village near Kakamega, where members of a US team will be assisting the
residents through teaching the process of water purification and how to make
and use biofuel briquettes for heating and cooking. Cottage crafts and other
skills will also be taught to the women. I will be leading the children's ministry and teaching
Bible stories, activities and games, through which I hope to build connections with local
families while I am there.
|
| Students in my Standard One class are happy learners! |
Thank you in advance for your prayers for the
Kenyan people and the ministry while I am away.
His for the nations,
Ruthie :-)
