Missionaries or farmers?

June 15th, Monday- On Monday, we taught the morning devotions to the younger students at 5:30 am. After breakfast and our staff meeting, we went out to the property where the ministry has several rice paddy fieds. It is planting time! We dug out two fieds and sowed seed into one of them. We had mud covering us- so we jumped in a nearby watering hole and played around to wash off the layers of caked mud! In the evening we planned lessons for our trip to the high school on Tuesday.

We also went to the local hot springs for a dip to relax!

June 16th, Tuesday- After teaching the morning devotions and breakfast, we went to the local high school to teach four classes. We had three teams, adn we worked on a 50 minute schedule per class session. We had NO onterpreters this time, and I was teamed up with Ellen! We had a great time with each group and connected well with the teachers and administration. They provided a delicious Thai meal for us before we headed back to the Kids' Life campus.

In the afternoons, Ellen and I taught English to the students. We have been teaching vocabulary and using easy readers as a whole group to model fluency and build comprehension with some of the new vocabluary that we've introduced. Next, we played a game before breaking up into small groups to practice reading with leveled book sets.

The children are doing well at this level in reading in phrases and are building fluency. They enjoy participating with our activities, although at first they were a bit shy.

We also have taught them songs in English each day! In the evening we planned a game night for the children. We stayed very busy but had a wonderful time!

June 17th, Wednesday- No 5:30 am devotions to teach today! :-) We spent our morning preparing for outreach to the Shan tribal school located in the orange and lychee groves on a nearby mountain overlooking Fang. Pasator Jay started our visit with many Thai and Shan songs, then we shared a song in Engish.

I then taught a lesson on the Good Shepherd. We planned a craft to go along with the lesson, and the children enjoyed making wooly sheep and decorating their papers. We handed out clothing and school supplies to the teacher, and gave out bags to each child with hygiene items, pencils, crayons, coloring books, food and treats!

We taught English after the children arrived home from school, using the similar schedule as listed above. In the evening we had a time of praise and worship and prayer. It is a beautiful thing to experience worship times at Kid's Life Ministry. I have filmed three hours of video of their singing and praise to share when I return home!

Thank you for your continued prayer support for our current outreach here in Thailand, and for the remainder of the upcoming summer ministry outreaches.

Be blessed!

His for the Nations,

Ruthie :-)
